Vivanta by Taj Holiday Village Goa … Go Goa!  I like to think that I make a regular pilgrimage to Goa, once every year or two years maybe.  No, I don’t belong to Goa, I just love the food the peace and the relaxation, that’s my idea of a pilgrimage

Normally I like staying in the North of the state as that’s where most of the action and the buzz is.  This the first time I chose to stay at the Vivanta by Taj Holiday Village Goa at Candolim beach in North Goa.

The Property

This is a sprawling 28 acre property with over a 100 rooms divided between one story buildings or individual cottages.

The hotel has a pool with a sunken bar and a small baby pool to the side.  There are also little benches very thoughtfully placed all over the gardens.  A play area for kids of all ages which has toys, board games and books that can be borrowed.

Finally this is right next to the Vivanta by Taj – Fort Aguada, a property where I have stayed on numerous occasions.  So if you take a full board plan, you can eat at any of the restaurants in either of the properties.  There are hotel cars that take you from one property to the other on demand.  We enjoyed some of our meals at the Fort Aguada as well.

The beach was directly accessible from the hotel and we spent most evenings eating snacks at a shack and sipping chilled beer.  No better way to enjoy a vacation.

The Restaurants

The property has 3 restaurants, a coffee shop, The Caravella and bar right at the beach with a deck that overlooks the ocean.  Another one called the Banyan Tree, a Thai restaurant right at the entrance of the hotel, almost on the main road.  This one is named after a huge banyan tree under which this located.  The third restaurant was called The Beach House and was a Goan Specialty place.  I loved the food at the Banyan Tree – genuine Thai flavours and amazing hospitality.  The buffet at the Caravella was amazing as well in its location.  The staff was very attentive and made sure that we got everything we needed even if it wasn’t on the menu.

The Room

We opted for a cottage with a sea view that had a small sit out.  The room was housed in the small cottage – 2 rooms per cottage.  We had our own little sit out, reminiscent of a typical Goan home with benches outside.  We also had a small garden with deck furniture and a small hammock.  Doesn’t get any better than this.

The only disappointment was that the sea view was only from the balcony and not the room itself.

The room was large with a huge King sized bed, wardrobe, seating area and the normal amenities such as flat screen TV, DVD player, and a fully stocked mini bar.

We reached this place a couple of weeks after my birthday.  The hotel seemed to have these details on their record and had a Belated Birthday Cake in the room on the first day, a wonderful little touch that made me feel really special.

The spa

I normally indulge myself with one of the spa treatments and I highly recommend this to anyone who stays at a Taj property.  On the face of it, the prices seem very steep, but believe me, the spa is worth every single penny. I felt rejuvenated and relaxed after my massage. Can’t wait to get back here.

Overall Thoughts

I’m a Taj loyalist, there isn’t much you can do to sway me and get me to stay at another property.  Granted, some of the new properties have snazzier rooms and fancier locations, however there is no way all of that can compare to the Taj service.  Something I always go back for.
