We spent 3 nights in Jaipur at the Taj Jai Mahal Palace jaipur, a Taj Palace Hotel. Built in 1745 AD set amidst 18 acres this was used as a Prime Ministers residence from the time Sawai Mann Singh II took over the Jaipur state.

Like the other Taj properties that I have stayed at, this did not disappoint.  We had a large room with a view of the lush gardens.  The gardens were at different levels and could be approached from the main lobby.  From our room we could see the gazebos that were spread across the property

Room – The room itself was large, with a king sized bed.  The property was a mix of old and new, while some of the rooms were from the original historical Jai Mahal Palace, the one we stayed in, looked like it was built later to match the original form.  The bathroom had a tub and a separate shower cubicle.  The toiletries were Forest Essentials.  An open-able window separated the room from the bath area.  You could open it or bolt it shut, depending on how much privacy you desired.

Food – We ate all our meals at the coffee shop – which had a buffet spread for all three meals. The spread was very large and the service impeccable.  The staff were super courteous and made you feel right at home.  I always go back to the Taj for its amazing level of hospitality.  I was traveling with my 3 ½ year old daughter and the made sure that we were well taken care of.  She didn’t like some of the food on the buffet and they always got something specially made from the kitchen for her, at no extra charge.  In fact, when the Captain found out we were going sightseeing for the full day, he ordered parathas to be made and had them packed specially for us.  A gesture I will never forget.

The dinner dishes were scrumptious as was the dessert.  A kiwifruit panacotta served one evening, still makes my list of best ever desserts.

The Property – The whole property had a really rustic palace feel to it.  The pool was in the back of the property and there was a small path leading from there to the gym and the play areas. There were 2 large play areas, one outdoors with the normal garden equipment of slides, swings etc.  There was one play area inside with a lot of games, blackboards and toys – mainly suitable for younger kids.

On one evening walk around the gardens, we came across a dancing peacock.  It was perched up on the roof of a small shack right at the edge of the gardens.  It was a completely breathtaking sight.

Spa – The hotel had two large tents in the garden near the pool that served as a Spa area.  I did sign up for a full body massage that turned out to be a very relaxing treat.  Though the treatment options available are far fewer than those at a Jiva Spa, the basic massage options were available.  I felt completely relaxed at the end of the hour long session.

Overall Thoughts

The Taj Jai Mahal Palace was a really wonderful choice for our stay.  The service, was excellent, always a smiling face around the corner.  Everyone greeted you well – I felt so pampered and taken care of.  The hotel itself was centrally located, not very far from the sights.

They did make a minor error during check out – they forgot to add a discount that was promised earlier.  We realized this once we got back home and my husband shot out a mail to them.  The reply was immediate; they apologized profusely and immediately credited the card account with the balance value.  This is the kind of service recovery that makes you want to go back again and again.
