Darjeeling’s tram train that takes you through the whole city is beautiful. Maybe that’s the reason why Bollywood loves shooting in Darjeeling, Super hit movies like Barfi have been shot there.
But don’t be fooled by the scenic landscape and label it as just another as touristy spot. Because near Darjeeling flows the stunning river Teesta from the nearby state of Sikkim. Which flows from Darjeeling to Bangladesh, The Teesta River has introduced river rafting. It’s a relatively new sport, which has come to Darjeeling but is being tremendously enjoyed by the travelers.
To take a river-rafting trip in Darjeeling you need to plan ahead as the tickets fill up before hand. One should avoid the months of July to September due to heavy flow in the river because of monsoons. The months best for river rafting are from December to June. As it takes about two hours to just drive to Teesta Bazzar and it will tire you out so dedicate one whole full day to the trip.
The trail is different for swimmers and non-swimmers. The non-swimmers have an option of weather to have 1.5 hour trail or 2 hour trail. While for swimmers even a 3 to 4.5 hour trail is available.
The USP of the Darjeeling rafting trail are two things. The view and the bends. You won’t know if you want to stare and capture the scenic view or work hard with your team so your raft doesn’t topple. Once you complete your tour and sit back sipping your Tea you will be ready to do it once more.
